Doris Included in Irish Team While McCarthy Omitted
Newly reappointed manager Andy Farrell has included captain Doris in his Ireland roster for the fall matches, however Joe McCarthy has been excluded.
The captain, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in early May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear if he will be fit to play against New Zealand in the US on 1 November.
Lock Joe McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot issue suffered during the opening British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Ulster forward Izuchukwu and southern province wing Nash also miss out because of injury, while full-back Keenan was previously excluded after having a hip operation after the Lions tour.
Leinster prop McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the only new member in the 34-player squad, however Irish rugby authorities states new Munster pair Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and once-capped Connacht wing Bolton will head to Chicago as "backup".
After facing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their previous encounter, Ireland will play Japan, Australia and world champions the Springboks in the Irish capital.
"It's an exciting group to the squad and it's a chance for the more experienced players and for the newcomers on the summer tour to Georgia and Portugal," commented Farrell, back to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to coach the Lions tour to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking selection, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Jack Crowley will again compete for the starting fly-half position. The number 10 jersey is still available, as Prendergast and Crowley set to face off for the first occasion in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at the Dublin venue.
Frawley is the third fly-half chosen with the coach deciding not to calling up the province's Harry Byrne.
At scrum-half, Farrell has selected Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Casey, who led Ireland to the summer international wins over the Lelos and Portugal. There is also a recall for the western province's Blade, chosen to club-mate Murphy.
Henshaw, Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey form an experienced cohort of midfield choices. Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, though the 23-year-old is also a frontrunner to cover for Keenan at full-back.
Outside backs Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are named. The winger shone on his national team debut during the summer with a brace each in the victories over the Lelos and the Lobos.
McCarthy is the sole new name in the Irish forwards. The loose-head prop has started a couple of Leinster's URC league games this season and played in the second string's defeat by the English in Bristol earlier this year.
McCarthy was included in caretaker coach Paul O'Connell's summer selection, yet did not earn a international appearance.
Southern province lock Ahern, who received his debut appearances in those matches, is kept in the squad, and veteran Northern province second row Henderson is back after missing the summer tour.
Conan, who played in all three Lions matches during the tour, is poised to cover for Doris should the skipper does not regain fitness in time to face the All Blacks.
The national team will meet in the capital on Monday before traveling to the US on the following day.
