Football Recap: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
In a defensive struggle this weekend, the Broncos clinched a close win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Contest
Even with recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets managed just 82 total net yards during the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a potential victory. But Fields was sacked on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach stated after the contest.
